Conspiracy Nuts

an original screenplay

by Randy Cook

Genre: Comedy

Think "The Hangover" meets James Bond.

Logline:A typo puts a low-level computer support slacker at the head of the secret society which controls the world and in the cross-hairs of the world's greatest assassin.

Synopsis: Conspiracy Nuts is a fast-paced comedy about a young man who, through the miracle of government bureaucracy, is mistakenly named as a member of The Council of Five, the ultra-secret organization which runs the world. Every conspiracy theory you've ever heard is true and the Council of Five is behind them all.

With little regard for rules, red tape or the feelings of others, Duffy O'Connor uses his bizarre sense of humor and questionable ethics to accomplish the few goals he manages to set for himself, like getting a new job with less responsibility. After pretending to be the hiring manager and dismissing a roomful of candidates, he greatly increased his chances of getting that dream job. On his first day, when he needed to get a coworker to vouch for him over the phone in order to get his security clearance, he made a big mistake. He used a name he saw on an office door across from his cubicle. What he didn't know was that using that name triggered a series of events behind the scenes which made Duffy the successor to a seat on the secret Council of Five. They are five all-powerful men who run the world.

Enter Roan Hayes, agent from ANGEL. Most men fantasize about being James Bond. James Bond fantasizes about being Roan Hayes. Roan's latest mission: to assassinate The Council of Five.

There's only two people who know Duffy is a fraud: Duffy and the poor sap who mistakenly gave Duffy the security clearance, the always terrified Gern Tully.

When the rest of the Council are assassinated at their secret moon base in an attempted coup by ANGEL, Gern and Duffy are literally rocketed into a situation where they are forced to keep up the fraud. Always one step ahead, only because they're running scared, they have to maintain the deception that Duffy is now the only surviving member of The Council.

So, how does Duffy use his new power? Any way he wants to of course! This includes leading the trial of Roan Hayes, restoring his favorite tv show to the airwaves and ordering George Lucas to release the original versions of "Star Wars" on blu-ray. Realizing he's not the man for this job, Duffy calls for a truce between the rival organizations and hands over the running of the world to the only person he feels is right for the job of running the whole world: his ex-mother-in-law.
